Welcoming April and Aries season
remember that it is all — ALL — part of blooming
It’s the first day of April, and we’re rocketing into spring. Like we talked about in last month’s post about spring, this season can be comforting because it visually stokes and reflects our desire for blooming and growth. After a long winter, we are rewarded with the the external imagery of flourishing and newness, a breath of fresh air.
But what if we’re not feeling that way on the inside? What if we’re feeling like we’re behind, or we still need time to ruminate, or overwhelmed?
Aries season is a time that can feel overwhelming. It’s bullish and action-oriented, and, frankly, isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. But Aries is confident, and knows what it’s all about. It’s coming whether you’re ready or not, and it’s our challenge to acknowledge the feelings that come up around a season that begs action.
Even if we aren’t feeling ready, Aries season asks us to take up space.
As the cardinal fire sign in our zodiac, Aries screams “action!” Aries’ animal is the is a ram, and is represented by Mars, the Roman god of war — in short, its spirit is headstrong.
My biggest takeaway from Aries is that there are times in our life where we are thrust into the action. When we are challenged to take a leap, whether we feel ready or not. This is a time to practice that energy.
There’s a familiar proverb around spring that says “in like a lion and out like a lamb,” that sums up the Aries spirit — it is rallying and exciting, but at times overwhelming and brash. This is a season that presses action forward, and we these feelings at the same time.
In short, Aries can be a lot. It also offers us something we haven’t seen a lot of this calendar year — action. The seasons we’ve experienced thus far have been rooted in earth, air, and water — which suggest we get realistic, think big, and check in with our emotions. We may be feeling a bit raw after crossing through these sensitive and intimate seasons, but now it’s time to our learnings out in the world. The ice thaws and the world gets brighter outside, which mirrors what’s happening within us. Time to get moving and pick up the energy.
We’re entering spring — a time to let the ideas we’ve been growing all winter break through to the surface. Some might stop right there, not adapt well to the new environment. But others will latch on and flourish.
It’s not the time to force things if they’re not working, or hold on too closely to those elements that are ready to be let go. Aries is about action, yes — but sometimes we’ve already done the work, and we need to let nature take its course.
Here’s some ideas of what Aries will be beneficial for:
Sharing your creations (even if they’re messy). Experiment with new ideas. Start talking about things. The ideas are good, I promise. Practice vulnerability and share them with those you trust.
Push yourself to get outside the comfort zone. Chase what you feel passionate about.
Step into your creative zone. Whether it’s a new or old interest, it’s time to start doing. Create what’s feeling right to you.
There’s a fabulous quote from Morgan Harper Nichols that goes, “all along, you were blooming.”
We often only see growth when it’s complete — when it’s polished and presentable, and in a great place. But all growth is part of the journey. Whether our journeys are just beginning or nearing the end, it’s all a beautiful celebration. It was happening all along.
Other big ideas to keep in mind as we head into April:
(adapted from my themes for this year’s creative work)
The spring energy ramps up even more in April, building confidence in our action taking. It’s a time to hit your groove, vibing on your work and pushing it forward.
As you push your work forward, how can you get curious? How can we try out different ways of doing things, tweaking and experimenting?
We are still in the early stages of the year, and this can be a common time to burn out, pushing forward to completion too early. we don’t need to be serious at this point; we can still be experimental and having fun.
Outcome: don’t take it too seriously. experiment and tweak while taking advantage of the confidence that comes from this stage.
