Welcoming June and Gemini season: a toolkit
Lessons on letting go and making way for what's to come
Happy Gemini season, friends! This season begins today, May 20, and lasts through June 20, when we will transition into summer (and Cancer season) with the summer solstice.
The headline here is — it’s almost freakin’ summer. We’re moving from the dewy, tepid says of spring into the electric, humming days of summer. Gemini season is a bridge between the two, creating a transition time where we gather speed, hurtling us toward hot, bright, action-oriented days to come.
Gemini a mutable sign, marking the end of the season (spring, and signaling us to wrap things up. Put our finishing touches on what we were working on, and let go of what we haven’t achieved. Gemini is also an air sign, bringing curiosity and communication into the fold.
Gemini is a sign that’s communicative and fun, but also fickle and restless. Its archetype is the twins, which means Gemini has a dual persona, often being the two sides of the same coin. This means the energy may flip flop this season, offering opposite intentions.
In the thick of new parenthood, I’m constantly experiencing the waxing and waning of seasons, being pulled between those opposite intentions and ideas. My little guy is five weeks old, and I’ve been holding on tight to the newborn stage, not wanting to let go of the scrunches and stretches and sleepiness that inhabits this season.
I’ve been bracing myself to miss every bit of this stage, without thinking about the fact that there’s so much more magic to come. Every glimpse I see of new development, a taste of what’s next only makes me excited. It eclipses the nostalgia.
The end of a season is not a death. It does not mean the closing of a chapter you can never revisit. It’s a building block; a set of knowledge you have the ability to move beyond, but perpetually persists in the background. It influences all that is to come.
The letting go of a season means there’s more to look forward to. A season cannot stay forever; its ephemerality is what makes it what it is. A constantly evolving experience. It’ll come back around again, but will be a little different, and so will we.
Gemini season is a mirror. Centered on the archetype of the twins, Gemini presents the opportunity to look closer. Perhaps this is to look inward, to wake up (or wake up to) your inner desires and hopes. Or perhaps it’s a time to reflect those inner desires or hopes outward, putting your work into the world, or communicating about what you hope will come next.
Gemini season is a time to get super clear on what matters to you deep in your soul, and what aspects of these important matters you want to endeavor to create this summer. It’s time to dance it out, to move through it so you can find full clarity.
This month’s moodboard embodies this Gemini vibe: it contains imagery of creativity, speaking your truth, and living out loud.
Some themes to play around with as we head into this transitional time of wrapping up spring:
Communicating your passions. If you’ve been working on a project, exploring new ideas, or cultivating interests — tell it to the world (or to a trusted friend). Post that art on social media! Tell your friends about the cool book you’re reading! Talk through the ideas out loud! Mirror what’s going on in your head back out into the world.
Creating something cool. Communication isn’t just about talking; it’s also about putting something new into the world. Have you been considering writing something? Making some art? Creating a new dish? If there’s a passion project in your brain, it’s time to try it out.
Letting go. If you’ve been pushing something that just isn’t happening, perhaps it’s time to let it go. It doesn’t mean it’s forever. But letting go might pave the way for something else great to come.
Other big ideas to keep in mind as we head toward June:
(adapted from my themes for this year’s creative work)
if you haven’t yet, practice sharing your creations. speak about it — mention what you’re creating in conversation, snap some pictures to share on social media, see if you can get others involved.
find your edge where it comes to sharing. there’s a difference between feeling vulnerable vs. not being ready to share. could you share with a close friend or partner? or are you ready to blast about your work to a larger group?
Outcome: let people know what you’re working on.
At the end of spring, we’ve taken action on our creative desires and have started sharing them with the world. It’s exciting! And scary! And fun!
